Paul is the Senior Vice President, Technology and Media Infrastructure at ESPN.  He was promoted to this position overseeing IT and all corporate systems infrastructure, telecommunications, and broadcast transmission and encryption in October 2007.  He previously had been Senior Vice President, Information Technology and Application Management since 2005. 

Paul joined ESPN in 1994 after three years working at IQ Software Corporation of San Antonio as Manager, Operations and Systems Management.  At ESPN, in 1996 he was promoted to Director, Operations and Technical Services.   He was promoted to Director, Applications and Technology in 2000.  Paul was promoted to Vice President, Technical Services and Application Management in 2002.

Paul spent 22 years in the U.S. Navy, enlisting directly out of high school in Omaha, Neb., in 1969.  In 1981, he received his commissioning to Ensign, United States Navy.   His first tour after commissioning was as the Systems Management Division Officer at the Fleet Combat Warfare Center in Virginia Beach.  In 1984, he joined the crew of the carrier USS John F. Kennedy as the Computer Systems Division Officer.  In 1987, he assumed duties as the Chief, Systems Management Division, at the Joint Electronic Warfare Center in San Antonio, supporting the Joint Chiefs of Staff.  He retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant in 1991, after serving in the Gulf War in Saudi Arabia, supporting General Norman Schwarzkopf’s staff.

Paul was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for designing and implementing a sophisticated electronic warfare analysis modeling system using advanced supercomputer technologies.  He was also awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General Colin Powell, for his exceptional service during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
